painful feet?

Then it’s even more important to wear good shoes. Mephisto places great emphasis on walking comfort. Do you recognize any of the following issues? Discover how adapted shoes and insoles can help you.

Plantar fasciitis/heel spur: a soft sole helps against an inflamed plantar fascia

Do you experience pain under your heel? Many adults experience this from time to time. Under the heel lies a fascia that absorbs the body’s weight while walking.

This fascia can become inflamed for various reasons, such as an improper gait, excess weight, prolonged overuse, or incorrect footwear. When the fascia is inflamed, you feel a sharp, stabbing pain under the heel. This condition is called plantar fasciitis but is often commonly referred to as a heel spur.

Solution: Prevention is better than cure, so choose good shoes that help prevent heel spurs. Do you already have heel pain? Then wear soft (shock-absorbing) insoles or orthotics to improve your walking comfort.

At Mephisto, we have developed a technology specifically designed to reduce the impact on your feet: SOFT-AIR TECHNOLOGY. Thanks to this technology, tired and painful feet are a thing of the past. The elastic and ultra-soft SOFT-AIR MIDSOLE minimizes shocks to an absolute minimum. This ensures that your feet are optimally protected, your joints are relieved, and your intervertebral discs are spared. All of this contributes to a healthy foot climate and allows you to move pain-free.

Hallux valgus/rigidus: wide shoes for a painful big toe

Our big toe is often a culprit when it comes to painful feet. Two common conditions:

  • Hallux valgus: This is a misalignment where the metatarsal bone of the big toe points inward, while the big toe points outward. This causes a bump on the side of the foot, which can become inflamed and cause pain.
  • Hallux rigidus: This is a stiffening of the big toe due to osteoarthritis in the joint, which mainly causes pain when walking.

Solution: Most of the time, a conservative treatment for hallux valgus or hallux rigidus is not possible. To improve walking comfort, it's best to choose wider shoes. These conditions often result from wearing tight, narrow, or high shoes.

Our Mobils collection offers the perfect solution. These shoes are designed with extra width, giving your feet more space and reducing pressure points. This allows you to experience less pain and more comfort, even with misalignments like hallux valgus.

Additionally, the Sano collection can help you walk more comfortably thanks to its excellent rolling technique. This technology supports a natural and smooth movement of the foot, which reduces pressure on painful areas, such as the joint of the big toe.

Mephisto shoes are of the highest quality and offer guaranteed comfort. Still experiencing discomfort? You can exchange your shoes for free in our stores.

High arch & hammer toes: adapted insoles can correct and distribute pressure

Do you have a very high instep and foot arch? Then you might suffer from a high arch (pes cavus), which can cause various issues.

The positioning of your feet can also lead to hammer toes, a stiffening of the small toes. A high arch can further cause problems in your back, knees, hips, and even your neck.

Solution: The best treatment for high arches and hammer toes is choosing the right footwear. Avoid tight shoes to prevent issues like corns.

Those who suffer from truly painful feet are best off using adapted insoles to improve their gait and better distribute pressure. Most Mephisto shoes have a removable footbed, allowing us to add the right insoles for your feet. Did you know that we also have sandals suitable for insoles? This is still unknown to many, but with our sandals, you can enjoy the comfort and support of your insoles even in the summer.

This image shows that 85% of our shoes have a removable footbed, which can be replaced with a custom orthotic. Mephisto’s insoles are already highly shock-absorbing thanks to the Soft-Air technology. If the insole is removed from the shoe, the customer does not lose the benefit of the Soft-Air technology, as it is also incorporated into the midsole.

Flat feet: choose insoles and well-fitting shoes

If your foot arch is lower than average, you suffer from flat feet (pes planus). In this case, the arch almost completely rests on the ground. This is a common condition and is often congenital.

It is not always a serious condition, but for your own comfort and to prevent symptoms such as pain, swelling, and fatigue in the feet, it is important to wear comfortable shoes.

Solution: Because the muscles in your foot cannot maintain the correct position on their own, support is necessary. With the right insoles, the discomfort of flat feet can be largely alleviated. Additionally, it’s important to wear shoes that accommodate these insoles properly so you can fully benefit from the support they provide.

Other issues: corns, swollen feet, …

  • A corn or callus can be very uncomfortable. Always wear well-fitting shoes that don't pinch.
  • Swollen feet and ankles can have various medical causes, but sometimes it's simply due to the shoes you wear all day. Often, they are too tight, and you would have been better off choosing a slightly larger size.

Solution: Rely on the expertise of our team to find the right shoes for your feet. You can also exchange your shoes for free in our stores, and with every purchase, you’ll receive a loyalty discount!
